Te Puke | Kiwifruit Capital of the World

Te Puke is a town located 28 kilometres southeast of Tauranga in the
Western Bay of Plenty region of New Zealand.

The Kiwifruit Capital of the World, Te Puke is part of the Bay of Plenty region and conveniently located a short drive from its major centres – Tauranga, Rotorua and Whakatane.

New Zealand’s booming kiwifruit industry had its beginnings here. It’s now a major export crop: hundreds of local growers produce millions of trays of the traditional ‘Green’ and the luscious ‘Gold’ that are shipped out worldwide.

Te Puke has a thriving farming sector - based on dairying, cattle, deer and sheep. It is also known for honey and bee-related health products such as propolis.

The town has four white-sand beaches within 10 to 20 minutes drive. Visitors can choose from adventure activities such as jet boating, off-roading and surfing - or more relaxed swimming, boating and game fishing. Live volcano White Island just off Whakatane, with its spectacular sulphurous vents, offers one of New Zealand’s most unique eco-tourism trips.

There are lots of other opportunities to enjoy the outdoors – via bush walks, elegant gardens, home and farm stays, horse riding, and hunting trips.
